Inspired by the university’s motto, ever to love and serve, Arrupe Jesuit University continues to strive for the Magis, and this time through supporting a community school with a 2 class roomed block.

On 4 March, the university’s community donated and presented a new classroom block to Tichakunda School, in Hatcliff, Harare.

Tichakunda is a community school that has in the past years depended on donations for its sustenance, and Arrupe Jesuit University has journeyed with it.

The project is part of AJU’S Community’s efforts to be in solidarity with the poor committee.

It consist of 2 class rooms, a staff room and a storeroom.

Speaking during the event, Fr Von Nidda stressed the need for developing students who are men and women for and with others.

The initiative dates back to 2015 when scholastics from Arrupe who were assigned to teach at the school for their apostolate identified the dire need for proper physical structures for conducting classes at the school.

At the time the students were using wooden cabins and fowl runs converted into classrooms for learning.

The building project started in 2017 and was delayed due to COVID-19.

The completion of this project brings deep joy to the Arrupe community and Tichakunda considering the hurdles that surrounded and slowed the project.

This gift to Tichakunda community school was presented with aim of improving and creating a conducive learning environment for the students.

We hope and pray that it will achieve this end.
