The Society of Jesus in Southern Africa (Southern Africa Jesuits) announces the passing of Br Jonathan Chazura, SJ, today the 14th of August 2025.
Having joined the Jesuits in 1977, Br Jonathan spent his early years as a Jesuit in Chinhoyi Diocese for quite some time. Makumbi Mission, Musami Mission, Arrupe Jesuit University (then Arrupe College) Chishawasha Mission are some of the places he later served with dedication and commitment.
In between he was also the vocations director for the then Jesuit Province of Zimbabwe and a good number of young Jesuit priests in Zimbabwe came through his hands.
With the death of Br Jonathan, the Jesuit Province of Southern Africa has lost two Brothers in a space of one month, both of whom resided at Richartz House in Harare.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
