About 63 Form 1 students from the Northern classes of Loyola Jesuit Secondary School gathered at Mt. Carmel in Kasungu for a recollection under the theme “Our Own Road to Emmaus.”
The recollection offered the new students an opportunity to pause from their usual school routine and reflect on their faith, relationships and personal growth. A key focus was the daily Examen, an important practice in Ignatian spirituality. The students were encouraged to observe the Examen at 12 noon each day, taking time to recognise God’s presence, give thanks and reflect on their actions and experiences.
The students also explored ways of responding to different situations they may encounter both at school and at home. They were encouraged to approach challenges with wisdom, responsibility and faith. Gratitude was another important aspect of the recollection, with the students reminded to appreciate God, their families, teachers, friends and the opportunities they have received.
The recollection concluded with Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Izequiel Costa, SJ. In his homily, drawing from Luke 9:43b–45 and Ecclesiastes 11:9 and 12:8, he encouraged the students to enjoy their youthfulness while remaining faithful to God’s rules and commandments.
The recollection invited the students to see their own journey of faith as a road of encounter, reflection and growth, beginning their Loyola experience with a deeper sense of purpose, gratitude and responsibility.
